LINGUAL FRENECTOMY

Dr. Gaudet has successfully treated many clients with anklyoglossia  – a more common term is TONGUE-TIED. Dr. Gaudet performs a lingual frenectomy using laser. This treatment is the surgical alteration of the frenulum linguae, the small fold of tissue under the tongue attaching it to the bottom of the mouth. The excess tissue is released or restructured to provide relaxation of the soft tissues and freedom of movement.

A lingual frenectomy is a  common dental procedure performed both on children and adults. When performed with a laser the procedure is simple, quick and non-invasive, reducing the risk of developing gum defects, such as recession or tooth rotation. As well, it is possible that releasing any such soft tissues that restrict mobility of the mouth may help to ease a speech impediment, should one exist.
